Community engagement
Communities are about people who live there, which is why engaging and involving local people is at the heart of everything that MVMP does.
We recognise that in order to create sustainable communities, it is vital that local people are given every opportunity possible to shape the destiny of their own neighbourhoods.
Accordingly, our work has involved consulting and collaborating with each of the eight local communities at every stage of the process.
Residents have been integral in developing and agreeing Masterplans for each area, and the communities now taking shape reflect their vision.
Representatives from each settlement meet regularly through our Community Forum, established to ensure the views of local residents are communicated as effectively as possible to the Board via a Community Director who sits on the Board alongside other partner organisations.
A range of other community activities included resident Implementation Groups at Warsop Vale, Brownlow Road Pleasley and the Royal Estate, open meetings, newsletters, consultation events and one to one meetings.
In addition, the work that is being undertaken with local schools is helping to engage young people and spread awareness of the regeneration process, which is helping to provide good quality homes for future generations.
In October 2008 a conference was held to promote financial sustainabilty with community and voluntary sector organisations across the Meden Valley area. Over 100 people attended this event, which included key speakers and a funding advice fair.
In December 2009 the East Midlands Empowerment Partnership undertook a case study into empowerment of residents engaging with MVMP. Follow the link below to see lifelong resident Ken Barker of Upper Pleasley describe his experiences of regeneration.
